LOLA's 2nd Birthday Jam

  • The North Door
LOLA is entering her terrible twos and we are going to savor this moment with more music, more innovation, and more collaboration! We have much to celebrate: LOLA’s critically acclaimed first production, La Femme Bohème, premiered June 21st of 2014 and was remounted with chamber orchestra in February of 2016. Both productions played for sold out houses per each performance.  Our new concert series, LOLA at 4th Tap has opened to much success and will continue each month for the foreseeable future. In our first two years, LOLA has raised over $57,000, produced three exciting operas in bar settings, begun a concert series/residency with 4th Tap Brewing Coop,  has become an independent 501c3 non-profit corporation, was able to contribute $300 a piece to two crucially important organizations in Austin; SafePlace, the domestic violence shelter and the Veteran’s Guitar Project.  We are in the process of designing two brand new shows: Rebecca Herman is creating a large pastiche work of art song involving singers, dancers, and projection art work, and a commission is under way for a new chamber opera written and scored by Peter Stopschinski and Kirk Lynn. We have much to celebrate on reflection of a successful first two years and are looking forward to our future. Doors will open at 1pm on August 28th.  La Femme Bohème will be screening before and after our featured concert. Food and drink will be available for purchase at the venue and Hey Cupcake cupcakes will be available for FREE.  Guests will be encouraged to find a good seat for the show that will begin at 2pm and run until 4pm.  LOLA's Liz Cass and Rebecca Herman will be on hand to introduce this afternoon of stars!  Performers and presenters: Liz Cass, Rebecca Herman, Cynthia Wilson Smith, Luz Sarmiento, Ivan Paez, Sonja Larson, Nora Karakousoglou, Emily Breedlove, Julia Taylor, Lisa Alexander, Lauren White Arthur, Sarah Fleming Walker, Katherine Altobello, Paul Sanchez, Phillip Hill, Maria Cook, and Abigail Jackson.

La Femme Bohème

LOLA has created a special Valentine for you...La Femme Bohème is the original all-female version of Puccini's classic opera.

Shows are Friday, Feb 12th @7:30/ doors @6:30, Saturday, Feb 13th @7:30/ doors @6:30, and Sunday, Feb 14th @3pm/ doors @2pm at the North Door. Purchase your tickets online for $15 throughhttp://www.ndvenue.com/. Tickets will be $20 at the door.

La Femme Bohème celebrates the Bohemian lifestyle, with all the passion, romance, and heartache that nourish the artistic soul. One of the strengths of La Bohème is that it demonstrates the importance of friendship and the families that you choose, coming together through the good times and the bad.

"In a world where females are often pitted against one another as rivals and queer relationships are still taboo and marginalized, this production is a chance to show audiences something different. We get to celebrate women, genders outside the standard dichotomy, and how families of choice can become just as strong as blood ties. These characters and their stories are timeless; and though we are presenting them in a new way, everyone can identify with falling in love for the first time, the frustrations of an unfaithful lover, the agony of losing a loved one, and the great joy of living life to the fullest." - Rebecca Herman, Stage Director of La Femme Bohème
