We have much to celebrate: LOLA’s critically acclaimed first production, La Femme Bohème, premiered June 21st of 2014 and was remounted with chamber orchestra in February of 2016. Both productions played for sold out houses per each performance. Our new concert series, LOLA at 4th Tap has opened to much success and will continue each month for the foreseeable future. In our first two years, LOLA has raised over $57,000, produced three exciting operas in bar settings, begun a concert series/residency with 4th Tap Brewing Coop, has become an independent 501c3 non-profit corporation, was able to contribute $300 a piece to two crucially important organizations in Austin; SafePlace, the domestic violence shelter and the Veteran’s Guitar Project. We are in the process of designing two brand new shows: Rebecca Herman is creating a large pastiche work of art song involving singers, dancers, and projection art work, and a commission is under way for a new chamber opera written and scored by Peter Stopschinski and Kirk Lynn. We have much to celebrate on reflection of a successful first two years and are looking forward to our future. Doors will open at 1pm on August 28th. La Femme Bohème will be screening before and after our featured concert. Food and drink will be available for purchase at the venue and Hey Cupcake cupcakes will be available for FREE. Nicole has commanded the stage in San Jose, Costa Rica and Mazatlan, Mexico as well as in Houston, Galveston, and Austin. In March of 2007, she produced and performed a concert of works by African American composers. The following year, a much grander sequel became the first ever Black History Music Celebration of The Butler School of Music at The University of Texas at Austin. This celebratory concert is now an established annual event, creating opportunities for not only the musicians onstage but also those in the audience to be introduced to a rich and largely unfamiliar repertoire by African American composers. This concert was last celebrated in February 2019. Nicole received her Bachelor of Music degree from the University of Houston Moores School of Music, and both her Master of Music degree in Opera (2006), and her Doctor of Musical Arts in Vocal Performance and Opera (2011) from the Butler School of Music at The University of Texas at Austin. Currently, Nicole is the soprano section leader at University Presbyterian Church. She has performed with the Orquesta Sinfónica de Puerto Rico, the New Jersey Symphony, and the NY Philharmonic among others in venues like Carnegie Hall, Bellas Artes, Symphony Space, NJPAC, and Congress Graz Stefaniensaal. An avid recitalist, her 2019-20 season included a lecture tour with pianist Laura Ahumada where they explored the influence of Spanish Music in The Americas. The tour included engagements in several cities including New Jersey, New York, and San Antonio, Texas. Sandra was also invited by Dietlinde Maazel to commemorate Maestro Maazel’s passing at the Castleton Festival singing Tosca with great success. She did 2 collaborations with the American Opera Project (AOP) and MMH; a new opera “The Rat” by composer Wang Jie, and the role of Patience in “Patience and Sarah” by composer Paula M. Kimper. The COVID-related cancellations halted plans to perform Beethoven’s 9th at the Cathedral Basilica of the Sacred Heart Cathedral Concert Series, and a series of Cuban Music recitals at The Music and Mentoring House’s Concert Series in NYC. Her 2023-24 season includes a recital at UTEP in collaboration with El Paso Opera, private fundraising concerts in Austin, as well as recitals at Music and Mentoring House’s Concert Series in NYC.
